A Modern Grammar of Standard Yoruba
The author decided to switch from Greek and Latin to Linguistics at Columbia University in New York City, USA, in the early 1960s, to be better able to contribute to the understanding and development of Yoruba, his native language, which in those early days was almost the exclusive preserve of foreign missionaries and scholars. The work is strictly data and evidence driven, and here and there within it will be found many basic, sometimes pleasantly surprising, facts never before noticed in the language. The differences to be found between the book and similar earlier or contemporary works are all attributable solely to the new additional data relied upon in it as well as to the new interpretations given to familiar data there.
