| My anger and bitterness sprouted and bloomed but there was nothing I could do, I looked down at my daughter in my arms—she was growing up to be such a beautiful girl, she has my mother’s eyes and somehow her nose resembles that of her father. I tried to recall mother’s advice and her heartfelt words. Mama would say that, you shouldn’t allow what they’re saying get to you; learn to love your husband and his mother too. She’ll tell me to let go of my pains and pray for a better marriage with my husband. Hauwa a young sixteen years old girl, because of her father's greed was forced to marry Habib a forty years old man. Hauwa later got pregnant but because she was small and couldn't give birth on her own; she developed urine contingency. She ended up on the street but was saved by a good Samaritan woman who helped her to have a better life. Now Hauwa wished to fight for her daughter Samira who died during child labor as a teen. |
