Chukwuemeka Godswill’s Five Nights with Omenka is a retelling of traditional tales. The author carefully recreates the background, and by so doing, reminds the reader of the old moonlight settings, for our storytelling. Young people who are not familiar with this background will find this a gold mine. The stories are as interesting as they are in structure. The lessons to be drawn from the tales are clear. There is no need to state them. Some of the stories contained in this book were originally collected by the author, no doubt, but he mixed them up with three stories he recreated from the Arabian Night and Prof. Azuonye’s collection. The author has rendered a service to young people. He is a budding folklorist who should be encouraged. I recommend Five Nights with Omenka. Rems N. Umeasiegbu, Ph.D Professor of English and Folklore
